We recommend that you do not use phpMyAdmin to create databases or database users.
We suggest that you use MySQL Database Wizard (cPanel >>> Databases >>> MySQL Database Wizard) to setup MySQL® database, user accounts, and user privileges.
The same applies to PostgreSQL Database Wizard which you can use to create PostgreSQL DBs.
phpMyAdmin doesn’t map databases which will cause backups and restorations to not function.
Here is what you should do:
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the DATABASES section of the cPanel home screen, click on MySQL Database Wizard
- In the New Database text box, enter a name for the database and click Next Step.
- In the Username text box, enter a name for the user who you wish to allow to manage the database.
- Enter and confirm the new password in the appropriate text boxes.
- Click Create User.
- Select the checkboxes that correspond to the privileges that you want to grant the user, or select ALL PRIVILEGES.
- Click Next Step.
The system displays a message that states that you successfully set up the database and user account.
OR
- Log in to cPanel.
- In the DATABASES section of the cPanel home screen, click MySQL Databases.
- Under Create New Database, in the New Database text box, type the name of the database.
- Click Create Database. cPanel creates the database.
- When the database is created, click Go Back.
- Under Add User to Database, in the User list box, select the user that you want to add.
- In the Database list box, select the new database.
- Click Add.
- Select the checkboxes to grant the user-specific privileges, or select the ALL PRIVILEGES checkbox to grant the user all permissions to the database.
- Click Make Changes.
You do not need to add a user as cPanel automatically adds the user to the database.
After you have created a new database in cPanel, you can import the database's contents by using phpMyAdmin or the mysql command-line program.
To import a database, login to your cPanel interface and scroll down to Databases.
- Click on the phpMyAdmin icon.
- Click on the Import tab.
- Click on the Choose File button and select the compressed SQL file.
- Ensure SQL is chosen as the format.
- Click Go.
If your SQL file is over 2MB in size and is not compressed, compress it using zip.
