Softaculous 1-click script installer makes installing web apps as easy as clicking a couple of buttons while keeping them up-to-date & secure.

If you are familiar with Amazon S3, you can use it to backup Softaculous applications.

Before proceeding, there are two things to point out:

  1. If you are using Softaculous to manage your WordPress applications, stick with it. Do not mix it with WordPress Toolkit. If you prefer WordPress Toolkit, stick with it. If you have both, visit WordPress Toolkit and Detach the WordPress application.
  2. You can also choose either Dropbox, Google Drive, WebDav, SFTP as optional Softaculous backup locations. These (along with Microsoft One Drive) are easier to configure and may not cost anything else since you already have these as existing accounts.

This short video shows you how to use either Amazon or Microsoft One Drive to back up your Softaculous applications:

To do that:

Visit the Softaculous End-user panel by selecting it from the Software section of your cPanel.

Select Edit Settings and then click on Add Backup Location.

Type in a Location Name for your personal reference.

Select Protocol as Amazon S3 from the Protocol list drop-down.

Enter the AWS S3 Endpoint e.g. "s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com"

Enter the AWS S3 Region e.g. "us-east-1".

Enter the AWS S3 Access Key.

And then the AWS S3 Secret Key.

Enter the AWS S3 Bucket Name where you wish to create the Softaculous backups. If the bucket has not been created prior to this, then it will be created automatically.

Enter the directory in which Softaculous should create the backups. e.g. /backups in the Amazon S3 Backup Location.

Click on Add Backup Location button to add the location in Softaculous and complete the process.

IMPORTANT: For the access & secret keys, it's a best practice to create an IAM user, create the access key under that IAM user and then define that user's permissions as narrowly as possible.
