Having an SSL on your website enables the padlock icon on the left side of the URL bar of your browser to inform your site’s viewers that the site is secured and that data transferred back and forth between the end-user and the site is encrypted.

Apart from security, there are other several benefits having an SSL brings to your website.

One of these is that it definitely will aid your SEO efforts since Google has made it known that websites using HTTPS would get a slight ranking factor boost in searches using their engine.

It means that if your website can send such a signal, it makes it easier for it to rank higher in Google searches.

There is also the performance boost that comes with the newer HTTP/2 protocol which is supported on all of our web hosting servers.

HTTP/2 is way better than the standard HTTP but requires HTTPS.

While our web hosting platform automatically installs an SSL certificate for each website you host with us, some of our cPanel hosting customers (especially ones that have recently migrated their website to our hosting platform) want to have an easy way to redirect traffic to the “secure,” or HTTPS version of an unsecured URL.

We are glad that to announce that the new cPanel v80 (available from July 2019) will have a new feature that makes that HTTPS redirection easier.

All you have to do is to log in to cPanel and visit the Domains interface in cPanel (Home >> Domains).

cPanel Force Redirection

There, you will see an option to enable Force HTTPS Redirection from the insecure version (HTTP) to the secure version (HTTPS) with a toggle switch.

All domains with valid SSL certificates can have redirection enabled.

Once you have toggled this to "On", the information will be stored in the account’s userdata files (/var/cpanel/userdata), and the redirection is built into the domain’s vhost configuration.

Domain aliases (historically called Parked Domains) will inherit their redirection status from their parent domain.

No longer will a manual .htaccess redirect, plugin, or Apache configuration update be required.

All you have to do as a cPanel user is to toggle a switch to redirect visitors to the secured version of your sites!

Neat, isn't it?
