Privacy is the rage these days.

To send emails to your customer list, you may often turn to third-party services who may or may not keep your list well ... private.

To mitigate the possibility of seeing your carefully curated list sold to those that might misuse it, cPanel has a mailing list feature you can to keep everything in-house.

cPanel mailing lists allow you to use a single address to send mail to multiple email addresses with the third-party Mailman application.

It is not as flashy or as dedicated as transactional and marketing email services.

But it sure does give you absolute control over your list.

To begin:

  • login to your cPanel
  • scroll down to the Email section of the cPanel interface
  • select Mailing Lists
  • select the domain or subdomain
  • type in the new name
  • protect it with a solid password
  • decide if you want it to be a public or private email list (see below)
  • click on "Add Mailing List or Create Mailing List" to complete the process
  • Private: Private archives exist for this mailing list. The administrator must approve subscriptions, and the Mailman interface does not display the mailing list.
  • Public: Public archives exist for this mailing list. The subscriptions are open, and the Mailman interface displays the list.

To give subscribers an opt-out option (recommended), create an unsubscribe footer link for your Mailman mailing lists.

To do that, click on "Manage"

Click on the Non-digest options.

Find the place that starts with "Should Mailman personalize each non-digest delivery? etc ..."

Select from either of these to add the required unsubscribe option:

Options and Unsubscribe:

%(user_optionsurl)s

Passwordless Options and Unsubscribe:

%(user_optionsurl)s?password=%(user_password)s

One-click Unsubscribe:

%(user_optionsurl)s?unsub=1&unsubconfirm=1

Passwordless One-click Unsubscribe:

%(user_optionsurl)s?password=%(user_password)s&unsub=1&unsubconfirm=1

To access or change the admin user for a mailing list after creation, visit the Mailing List interface at (cPanel >> Email >> Mailing List).

Scroll down to the mailing list you want to change the admin for.

Click on "Manage" and select an option.

It is worth noting that the system automatically logs in to your Mailing List once you click on the "Manage" option.

However, if you go directly to the Mailman URL or prefer to use the email-based management functions, please use the admin password.

If the Mailing Lists feature is missing in your cPanel. please contact our technical support team for assistance.
