Before you can use the cPanel File Manager's Restore function:

  • the system admin must have Backup configured
  • he or she or they must enable via Feature Manager the Retain Backups in the Default Backup Directory functionality.

If you are unable to see this on your cPanel, it is because these two conditions have not been met.

On our systems though, customers make use of JetBackup

Customers can use the:

  • Dashboard: to get an overview of JetBackup's statistics, alerts, and recent activities on their server
  • Restore & Download: to manage and execute restores and downloads for account and directory backups
  • Downloads: to view and access generated downloads.
  • Alerts: to view alerts generated by JetBackup processes associated with your account
  • Queue: to view the progress/status and cancel queued JetBackup processes associated with your account

You can quickly restore the specific backup:

  • Home Directory Files
  • Databases
  • Database Users
  • Email Accounts
  • FTP Accounts
  • Cron Jobs
  • DNS Zones
  • SSL Certificates

JetBackup is available at cPanel >> Files >>> JetBackup.

To restore the file using JetBackup, click on the Restore and Download option.

Select a backup.

Select the files to restore and hit the "Restore Selected" button.

For systems with cPanel default Restore via File Manager, we are assuming that you have successfully created a new web hosting account.

We also assume that you have logged in to your brand-new cPanel hosting panel interface.

With these done, scroll to the Files section and click on the File Manager icon.

When the new tab opens, select View Trash from the toolbar.

Within the File Manager, if you have any files currently stored in the "Trash", you should have an option on the top named "View Trash".

In the Trash directory, select the files there you need to recover and you will see a new option named "Restore".

Click the "Restore" option to restore the selected files to their previous location.

The only to restore a file/folder you deleted using a command line is if you have earlier backed up the file or folder before deletion.
